Dover, Delaware — The remains of U.S. Army Major Sorffly Davius, a service member from Cambria Heights, New York, were returned to the United States on March 9, 2026, during a solemn dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

The ceremony was carried out by a U.S. Army carry team, a specialized group of service members responsible for respectfully transferring the remains of fallen military personnel from aircraft to waiting vehicles that transport them to the base’s mortuary facility.

The event followed long-standing military traditions used to honor American service members who die while serving their country.

According to military officials, Major Sorffly Davius was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of the 42nd Infantry Division, based in Troy, New York.

The 42nd Infantry Division, also known as the “Rainbow Division,” is a unit of the U.S. Army National Guard that supports both domestic and overseas missions.

The dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base is one of the most solemn traditions within the United States Armed Forces, symbolizing the nation’s respect and gratitude for those who have died while serving.

During the ceremony, the remains are carried in a flag-draped transfer case while military personnel stand in formation.

Images and video from the ceremony were recorded by U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Madeline Baisey, documenting the moment when the carry team carefully transferred the remains of Major Sorffly Davius from the aircraft.

The return of Major Sorffly Davius has prompted tributes from fellow service members, military officials, and members of his home community in Cambria Heights, where he is remembered for his service and dedication to the country.

As the investigation and official military procedures continue, Major Sorffly Davius is being honored by the U.S. military and by those who served alongside him, recognizing his commitment and sacrifice in the line of duty.
