Authorities in New York confirmed the death of NYPD Police Officer Sorffly Davius, who passed away while deployed overseas in support of Operation Epic Fury, a military operation currently underway in the Middle East.
According to officials, Sorffly Davius died on Friday at Camp Buehring in Kuwait after suffering a medical episode while serving with the 42nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army National Guard.
The information was confirmed by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who expressed condolences to the officer’s family and highlighted his service to both his country and his city.
Before being deployed, Officer Sorffly Davius had served with Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a security unit responsible for protecting critical infrastructure and major locations throughout New York State.
The unit works closely with federal and local agencies to strengthen security against potential threats.
In addition to his military service, Sorffly Davius built a career with the New York Police Department.
He joined the NYPD in 2014 and served in Brooklyn’s 79th Precinct, where he worked as a patrol officer protecting residents in the area.
Following the news of his death, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch issued a joint statement honoring the officer’s commitment to public service.
Both leaders emphasized that Davius dedicated his life to protecting others, both in his role as a police officer and as a member of the National Guard.
Governor Kathy Hochul also paid tribute to the fallen officer, describing him as a devoted husband and father whose service reflected the sacrifices made by many National Guard members who balance military responsibilities with civilian careers.
Officials stated that additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the medical emergency have not yet been released.
