Federal investigators say the search for Nancy Guthrie has entered a significant forensic phase after a key piece of evidence recovered near her Tucson home yielded a DNA profile.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that one glove collected during the ongoing investigation contains a DNA profile believed to belong to an unidentified male.
Authorities say the glove appears consistent with the gloves worn by the masked suspect captured on doorbell surveillance footage outside Nancy Guthrie’s residence on the night she disappeared.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 after failing to attend a scheduled church gathering.
Investigators later described her disappearance as a suspected abduction after discovering evidence at the scene that raised serious concerns.
According to federal officials, approximately 16 gloves were recovered in areas surrounding Guthrie’s property during extensive searches conducted over the past two weeks.
Most of those gloves were determined to belong to volunteer searchers who had been assisting in canvassing nearby desert terrain and neighborhoods.
However, investigators identified one glove as distinct from the others. The item was discovered in a field along a roadside roughly two miles from Guthrie’s home.
Preliminary forensic testing indicated the presence of a DNA profile not belonging to Nancy Guthrie or individuals known to be in close contact with her.
The FBI confirmed that initial laboratory results were received Saturday.
Officials are now awaiting final quality control verification before submitting the unknown male’s DNA profile into the FBI’s national DNA database system. The entry process is expected to take approximately 24 hours once approved.
The development follows the earlier public release of surveillance footage showing a masked individual wearing gloves and carrying a holstered firearm approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door.
Authorities previously described the suspect as a male of average build, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Savannah Guthrie has publicly appealed for information about her mother’s whereabouts, urging anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies continue to coordinate efforts, emphasizing that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Officials have not announced any arrests connected to the DNA findings, and no suspect has been formally identified.
Authorities state that further updates will be provided as forensic analysis progresses and additional investigative leads are developed.
