MCPHERSON, KANSAS — October 29, 2026. Family members, friends, teachers, and community residents gathered in McPherson to say their final goodbye to Cole Thomas Adrian, the beloved 6-year-old boy who lost his life after a pickup truck drove onto a youth soccer field in Wichita, Kansas.
Cole’s funeral was held Monday, October 26, at McPherson Free Methodist Church, where more than 1,000 people gathered to remember a child whose cheerful personality, love of soccer, and ability to make others smile left a lasting impression.
His father, Chris Adrian, delivered an emotional tribute, remembering the ordinary moments that his son had always managed to turn into extraordinary memories.
For Cole’s parents, Chris and Natalie Adrian, and his siblings, Cason and Tia, the ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the little boy whose presence had brought so much happiness into their home.
A Church Filled With Love for Cole
The funeral service began at 10 a.m. on October 26 at McPherson Free Methodist Church, located on South Maple Street.
The gathering brought together relatives, classmates, teachers, soccer families, and community members who wanted to honor Cole’s memory.
Because of the expected attendance, additional seating was arranged at Greer Auditorium on the Central Christian College campus.
McPherson Public Schools also canceled classes for the day, allowing students, teachers, and school employees to attend the service.
Cole was a kindergarten student at Roosevelt Elementary School, where he was remembered as a joyful child who connected easily with those around him.
Following the funeral, the family held a private graveside ceremony at McPherson Cemetery.
Chris Adrian Remembers His Son’s Favorite Words

During the service, Chris Adrian spoke about his son’s enthusiasm for life and his remarkable ability to find happiness in everyday experiences.
Cole frequently described ordinary family outings and simple activities as the «best day ever.»
His father explained that those words captured the way Cole approached the world.
Even moments that adults might consider routine could become something special through the little boy’s eyes.
Chris remembered his son’s laughter, affection, and excitement, describing a child who made friends easily and brought warmth into every room.
He also expressed gratitude for the tremendous support the family had received from the McPherson and Wichita communities.
For those attending the funeral, the father’s tribute offered a deeply personal glimpse into the boy they had gathered to remember.
Soccer Jerseys, Blue Clothing, and Camouflage Honor His Memory
Rather than requesting traditional funeral attire, Cole’s family encouraged attendees to wear clothing connected to his favorite things.
Many mourners honored that request by wearing soccer jerseys, blue clothing, or camouflage.
Those choices reflected Cole’s interests and allowed family members and friends to celebrate the personality that made him special.
Cole loved soccer and enjoyed spending time with his teammates.
His passion for the game had become an important part of his childhood and the friendships he formed.
The family also welcomed flowers and established the Cole Adrian Memorial Fund to support remembrance efforts in his honor.
The Meaning Behind LLCA
One of the most touching tributes to Cole has been the phrase LLCA, which has appeared on clothing worn by members of the soccer community.
The letters represent four expressions honoring the little boy:
Laugh Like Cole. Love Like Cole. Live Like Cole. Long Live Cole.
During his funeral tribute, Chris Adrian reflected on the meaning of those words.
He explained that each expression captured something important about his son’s personality and the example he left behind.
For the family, LLCA has become more than a memorial slogan.
It represents a reminder to approach life with the same kindness, enthusiasm, and affection that Cole showed to others.
What Happened at Stryker Sports Complex?

The incident occurred Saturday, October 17, 2026, at approximately 3:25 p.m. at Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita.
According to the Wichita Police Department, a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old woman from Garden City traveled from a nearby parking area onto a soccer field where children and adults were participating in a game.
The vehicle struck several people before coming to a stop.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and began assisting those affected.
Cole Thomas Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, both residents of McPherson, lost their lives at the scene.
Ten additional people, ranging in age from 5 to 68, sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Nicholas Schafer was also remembered as a soccer coach and middle school teacher whose life had been dedicated in part to helping young people.
The two families have received widespread support from their communities.
Wichita Police Continue Their Investigation
Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan has emphasized that investigators are working to establish exactly what caused the vehicle to enter the soccer field.
Detectives have conducted nearly 50 interviews and examined evidence from the pickup truck.
Investigators are also reviewing vehicle data and awaiting official toxicology findings.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers.
Authorities released her after determining that the available evidence did not establish probable cause for an immediate arrest.
Police have not publicly identified the woman and have cautioned against spreading unverified claims about her identity or the circumstances of the incident.
As of the latest publicly available updates, the investigation remained ongoing, and no final charging determination had been announced.
McPherson Schools Stand With the Adrian Family
The loss of Cole has deeply affected McPherson’s educational community.
Dr. Cody Rierson, superintendent of McPherson Public Schools, announced the district’s decision to close schools on the day of the funeral.
The closure allowed educators and students to participate in the remembrance service and support those grieving.
School officials also made counseling and emotional support resources available to families and employees.
For Cole’s classmates at Roosevelt Elementary School, his absence is being felt during a school year that had only recently begun.
Teachers, friends, and relatives continue remembering the energy and happiness he brought into their lives.
A Community Remembers Two Lives

Before Cole’s funeral, a community vigil was held on October 21 at Stryker Sports Complex.
Residents gathered to remember Cole and Nicholas Schafer and to support those recovering from injuries.
Among those who spoke was Casey Casamento, a former pastor and soccer coach, who reflected on the importance of finding comfort and hope together.
The gathering also included statements from the Adrian and Schafer families.
Community members expressed their condolences and offered encouragement to those facing a difficult period of grief.
The remembrance events demonstrated the close connections among the families, schools, and soccer organizations affected by the incident.
A Final Goodbye to Cole Thomas Adrian
For Chris and Natalie Adrian, the memories of their little boy remain a source of love amid an overwhelming loss.
Cole’s laughter, his enthusiasm for soccer, his affectionate hugs, and his ability to find joy in simple moments will remain part of his family’s story.
His siblings, Cason and Tia, will carry memories of the brother who shared their childhood.
The McPherson community has also promised to keep his memory alive through acts of kindness and the message behind LLCA.
Although Cole’s life lasted only six years, his family hopes the love he shared will continue inspiring others.
As his loved ones gathered for their final farewell, the message was one of remembrance, gratitude, and enduring love.
Rest peacefully, Cole Thomas Adrian. Your beautiful smile, joyful spirit, and the happiness you brought to others will never be forgotten.
